Why Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a holistic system of medicine that has been practiced in India for over 3,000 years. The word Ayurveda is derived from the Sanskrit words ayur (life) and veda (science or knowledge). Thus, it translates to “science of life” or “knowledge of life”
It is based on the belief that health is a state of balance between the body, mind, and spirit. When these three aspects of our being are in balance, we are healthy. When they are out of balance, we can experience disease.
Ayurveda identifies three doshas, or body types, that are made up of the five elements: vata (air and space), pitta (fire and water), and kapha (earth and water). Each person is said to have a unique dosha combination, and the goal of Ayurveda is to help people live in harmony with their doshas.
